The arch is impressive for its imposing size and magnificent neoclassical architecture. Avenue des Champs-Élysées:
The Champs-Élysées, one of the world's most famous avenues, stretches nearly 2km from the Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde. The Champs-Élysées used to be a swamp. It was in the 17th century that Le Nôtre, Louis XIV's gardener, was commissioned to lay out the avenue. Since then, the avenue has gone from strength to strength. The avenue is renowned for its boutiques, cafés (notably Le Fouquet's and Ladurée) and cultural venues (cinemas, theaters, Grand and Petit Palais).
